Katie Calon
Katie Calon has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Biology from the University of Alberta. While her education and career has focused on wildlife (she is a self proclaimed bird nerd), dogs have always been a part of her life. When she finished university in 2006 she rescued Annie, who opened the door to dog training and dog sports. In February 2011, Synchro blasted into her life headfirst, tail wagging, and tongue licking. His foundation training is well underway!
Katie and Annie started their agility education in 2007. After their first competition, Katie realized they had alot more to learn, and started seeking out the most advanced, positive dog training knowledge she could. Reading mountains of books, watching hours of videos, and attending a variety of classes started her education. In Edmonton she took instruction from Justine Davenport for 3 years. She had taken online courses with Sylvia Trkman and Susan Garrett; has attended a seminar with Fanny Gott and has recently participated in the Outreach program with Kim Collins.
Since moving to British Columbia in late 2011, she is thrilled to have found Allstar Agility, with a complimentary training philosophy based on positive reinforcement and building a strong foundation. Katie will be teaching Foundation Agility Classes with Allstar Agility. She is very enthusiastic about shaping, and every pet in the household has a repertoire of tricks, including Snickers the cat! (Note: Her supportive husband Isaac is excluded from this statement).
Katie and Annie have competed at the AAC AB/NWT Regional Championships in 2009, 2010, and 2011, placing 7th, 6th, and 2nd respectively. They also competed at the AAC Nationals at Spruce Meadows, Calgary, AB in 2010.
